Atwell Tinnon
has been a KAZI volunteer since 1985. He began his training while still in high school and has been a well-known personality and mainstay of the station for over 35 years. He is currently an Elementary School Principal in Austin ISD and has received district-level recognition as a Principal of the Year nominee/finalist and the African American Distinguished Principal award. Atwell also received the 2023 Juneteenth Heritage Honors Award in Education.

Atwell has also served in various leadership roles in the local Black Baptist Church, as well as in the community. He has previously served on the City of Austin Arts Commission for multiple years. Atwell was also affiliated with the former local theater company, Pro-Arts Collective, under the leadership of the late and great Boyd Vance. He has served in several capacities at KAZI over the decades: Gospel Announcer, PSA Director, Community Calendar Producer, Talk Show Host, KAZI Care Team Chair, and Programmer Representative on the KAZI Board of Directors.

Atwell is the proud husband to Denice Tinnon (27 years) and the honored father to Kayla Tinnon and Tevion Tinnon. Atwell considers himself a ‘Servant Leader’ in all capacities and roles that he has been blessed to hold throughout his life, including his work with Austin Community Radio, KAZI.
